Respite

Respite care gives you and your family the chance to recharge and look after yourselves.

For your child or teenager, it is a great opportunity to experience a new environment, to make new social connections and develop new skills, in a fun and supportive setting.

Cerebral Palsy Alliance’s Short-Term Accommodation (otherwise known as Respite) can be part of your support network. It is a place where your child or teenager can go, where they are happy, safe (we follow, Office of Children’s Guardian standards) and supported by a dedicated team who are passionate to make it an enjoyable experience.

How we can help

Respite at CPA can become part of your extended support network, allowing your teenager to live out of home for a short period of time.

We are here to help you maintain your current living situation by giving you/ your informal supports a short break and by doing so strengthen and maintain the family/ carer relationship.

Our staff are highly trained in a number of support areas and are motivated to assist individuals. We take the time to clearly understand your teenagers needs and identified skills that you would like to be supported.

Your teenager will have the opportunity to participate in a range of experiences during their stay. These may include activities in the home, excursions out in the community and time to socialise with other teenagers.

Funding supports

Whilst currently there is no ‘Respite’ item specifically listed under National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), Respite is available and can be described as Short-Term Accommodation (STA) and assistance.

NDIS funds STA under the Core Support category ‘Assistance with Daily Living’ (Category 1), allowing you more flexibility in the way you use them.
