Research Study: Very early Intensive enrichment Program (VIP)

CPA researchers are conducting a clinical trial which combines therapy for babies at high risk of cerebral palsy, with support for their caregivers. The program is designed for very young babies at high risk of cerebral palsy, delivered when they arrive home from the hospital. The program has been designed by parents of children with CP, researchers and clinicians.

The team would like to know if providing therapy to babies very early in their life, combined with wellbeing support for caregivers, can improve infant development.

Who can participate?

You and your baby can participate if they:

  • are less than 4 weeks old (corrected age);
  • have been, or are about to be, discharged home from the hospital; and
  • are at high risk of cerebral palsy;

Please contact us to discuss whether your baby is eligible for the study at vip.study@cerebralpalsy.org.au

What does the study involve?

You and your baby have an equal chance of receiving the VIP early intervention program or their usual care.

All babies will have assessments in the first month, at 3-4 months, 6 months, and 12 months of age.

If you are in the VIP group, therapy for your baby will include:

  • weekly home visits (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, or speech pathology) and;
  • weekly wellbeing support with a psychologist or social worker

If you think you and your baby may be eligible for the study, please click the button below to fill in the eligibility screening form. A member of our team will be in contact shortly.
