Our CP Quest Coordinator, Sophie Marmont, sharing on the importance of lived experience in research.

Cerebral Palsy Alliance at the 7th Annual Brain and Mind Centre Symposium

On 5 November 2024, CPA Research Institute was honoured to participate in the University of Sydney’s Brain and Mind Centre (BMC) 7th Annual Symposium. Focused on advancing child development, mental health, and brain ageing research, the symposium featured keynotes on artificial intelligence, mental health, and innovative co-design in brain science.

Her Excellency the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of Australia, opened the event with a message emphasising the importance of care in BMC’s work. Esteemed guests included Professor Pepijn van de Ven from the University of Limerick and Professor Jianfeng Feng from Fudan University, as well as early-career researchers.

Notably, CPA’s CP Quest Coordinator, Ms. Sophie Marmont, was invited to join a consumer engagement panel to discuss the importance of involving individuals with lived experience in research, focusing on respectful practices in engaging research participants.

Two of our CPA researchers also presented their work:

  • Emma Waight shared her work on post-neonatally acquired CP surveillance improvements.
  • Georgina Henry showcased her research on the CPA Mindfulness Program and its role in enhancing mental health.

Cerebral Palay Alliance Research Institute thanks the Brain and Mind Centre for hosting an inspiring event that demonstrated the power of collaboration in advancing brain and mental health research.
