Children between the ages of 3-6 years are developing their communication skills at a rapid rate. Many children with cerebral palsy (CP) or at risk of CP have difficulties in learning to speak. This is not so noticeable when the child is young, but at this age, when children’s speaking skills grow at an explosive rate, difficulties in this area can become more obvious. Children learn to understand and use increasingly more complex sentences, while their speech becomes clearer and easier to understand. During this age, children begin to combine words into sentences, share ideas in more complex ways, and learn social skills to help them form friendships and relationships.
