Lauren Hansen
Position: Exercise Physiologist

When Lauren completed university in November 2012, she started with Cerebral Palsy Alliance working with the swimming club and giving swimming lessons and she has never looked back.

In the early years, she spent a lot of time working with clients in the hydrotherapy pool, coaching the swimming club and being part of the aquatic therapy supports team. But over time, her role has expanded to include gym programs. This can involve working with clients in the CPA gyms at Ryde or Allambie, or in the client’s local gym if they prefer.

Lauren says the most rewarding part of her job is to assist clients to reach their goals – whatever they may be. She encounters such a wide range of ages, and people’s goals are so varied that she is constantly surprised. Goals can be as varied as climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge or Mount Kosciuszko; learning how to roll independently in bed; or building lower limb strength in order to do a standing transfer.

But no matter how big or small the goal, Lauren understands how much it matters to the client, and is only too glad to support them to achieve it.

Lauren also loves working across the Allambie and Ryde sites because she has learnt that the organisation fosters the same values everywhere. She is proud to be part of a team that encourages friendship, brings people together and keeps them connected. One of the most rewarding parts of her work is to watch families meet one another and see their children become friends and therapy become fun.
