Melinda is a superstar occupational therapist (OT) who finds every day exciting, that’s why she’s worked at CPA for 13 years!
Melinda’s journey at CPA started as an OT at Kingswood from 2010-2013 in the therapy team working with children. She then moved to Prairiewood and worked in adults and children’s teams. Following this, a wonderful opportunity in a management role arose, completing frontline management and building leadership programs. After having her two children she’s now back at Prairiewood as an OT and loving it.
Being part of a multidisciplinary team is important for Melinda as it means she can provide a better service for clients and she is constantly learning.
“It’s the little daily updates with other therapists seeing the same client, sitting in on their sessions and bouncing ideas around that make the big picture so much brighter for client outcomes. I can incorporate strategies and make quicker progress through having these different perspectives. And the opportunity to work closely with the research team ensures that evidence-based interventions are put into practice,” says Melinda.
The most rewarding thing for Melinda is being able to work with the most amazing families and children you could ever wish to meet, sharing their joys and challenges, and supporting them, not just through therapy, but being there for them through difficult times and seeing them grow.
An unforgettable memory which Melinda holds dear is when a two-year-old boy first experienced using early powered mobility. He had a significant physical disability and had never been able to move independently.
“Seeing the look on his face and his mum’s face, as he made the connection between pushing the joystick and moving towards his mum, was the most beautiful moment,” added Melinda.
This is the magic that can happen
