Sadie’s story

Sadie lives at home with her mum, dad and twin sister Heidi. Sadie was referred to Cerebral Palsy Alliance (CPA) in Port Macquarie when she was only 12 days old.

This is Sadie’s story, as told by her mum, Jesse.

Sadie and her twin sister, Heidi, were born in November 2023. We love being out and about especially at the beach taking our girls for swims or walks.

When we found out we were having twins we were in shock to say the least! As they are identical it was considered a high-risk pregnancy, so we had scans every two weeks.

At 18 weeks the doctors noticed an abnormally in Sadie’s brain. We were told the worst, which was heartbreaking to hear.

Very soon after Sadie was born, she had an MRI, which gave us more of an idea of what her brain injury was. It was at this point that were we were pointed towards CPA. We have been working with them since Sadie was only a few weeks old. Because we live in Coffs Harbour, the CPA team always accommodated us by making home visits, since our first appointment.

Even before Sadie received her National Disability Insurance (NDIS) funding, we were able to access early response occupational therapy and physiotherapy, because of CPA’s generous donors.

Sadie has gained so many skills and confidence while she has been working with her CPA early response therapy team. Before Sadie was born, we didn’t really know much about cerebral palsy (CP). They have helped us with any concerns and gave us advice on how we can best support Sadie.

Sadie loves playing with her sister and getting up to no good with her! She is super cheeky and love cuddles. She absolutely loves food especially whatever mum is eating!

We have so many hopes and dreams for Sadie but most importantly, that she lives a happy and healthy life and to be able to push through any struggles she may come across. We are so thankful for all the support from everyone at CPA.
