Develop communication skills to create and maintain friendship

Communicate Workshop is a weekly program for young people that focuses on developing skills in appropriate communication to create and maintain friendships, and liaison with other communication partners. Furthermore developing an awareness of formal and informal communication and interactions using social media. This can be communication both verbally and with use of AAC devices and systems.

 

What's involved?

  • Group work
  • Role plays
  • Interaction with a range of people both peers and formal interactions
  • Use of technology
  • Practice strategies for making friends

 

Who is this for?

  • 18+ year olds (10-week program, starting 15 Oct every Thursday 10am-12pm)
  • a group for teenagers aged 13-17 year olds is available upon request

 

What are the outcomes?

  • Participate in a range of appropriate social interactions with peer group
  • Identify types of communication used in a variety of social settings
  • Develop skills in the steps needed to make a friend
  • Demonstrate an awareness of safe online interactions
