Track and field fun: Inclusive athletics for people with disabilities

Commencing Term 4 (13 October 2025)

Our Accessible Athletics Program helps participants learn and enjoy track and field activities in a supportive and inclusive environment. Whether you’re preparing for a school carnival or just want to get moving, this adaptive athletics program helps build strength, skills and self-belief.
Run over 10 weeks, sessions are delivered in small groups or one-on-one by experienced disability sports professionals.

One-on-one sessions are available for adults and children at various times Monday – Friday. Call 1300 888 378 to make an enquiry.

NDIS funding
  • Initial Assessment: Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living (Category 15) or Improved Health and Wellbeing (Category 12)
  • Athletics Program: Self-funded or Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living (Category 15)

What does it involve?

  • Drills and exercises to improve strength and coordination
  • Inclusive track and field activities to strengthen overall athletics skills
  • Group games/races to put your skills into practice
  • A mini athletics carnival to celebrate progress
  • An initial assessment with an Exercise Physiologist or Physiotherapist to help set your goals, identify any required adaptations, and ensure you can participate fully and enjoy the program.

What are the outcomes?

Who is the program for?

  • Children (7-17 years) and adults (18 – 44 years) of all abilities who want to develop or improve their athletic skills, health, and fitness.

Group Program

  • People with cerebral palsy (GMFCS I – III) or similar disabilities who can follow instructions and engage in a dynamic group setting for 90 minutes (independently or with support).

Individual Program

  • People with cerebral palsy (GMFCS I – IV) or similar disabilities who can follow instructions and participate in activities for 60 minutes (independently or with support).

FAQs

Wear comfortable clothes you can move in, and sports shoes or runners. 

Spiked shoes are only allowed at Blacktown Athletics Centre. 

Bring a drink bottle and a sweat towel if needed. 

If you wear AFOs or your physiotherapist recommends them for athletics, bring them along with any other mobility aids you use. 

If we need to cancel or move a session indoors due to wet weather, we send you a text message by 3pm on the day. 

Outdoor sessions moved indoors may require a change in location—details are included in the message.

If you’re running late and it’s before 5pm, please call our Reception Team on 1300 888 378. 

All staff have access to emergency contact details. If you’re not there at pick-up time, the Allied Health Assistant will call you.
