World-renowned neonatal neurologist shares latest research in Sydney

Cerebral Palsy Alliance was honoured to welcome Professor Linda de Vries to Sydney, following an invitation from Professor Nadia Badawi.

A global leader in neonatal neurology, Professor de Vries is internationally recognised for her work in understanding brain development and predicting outcomes for newborns, particularly in cases of neonatal stroke and brain injury.

During her visit, she gave five engaging presentations to clinicians and researchers, covering important topics such as:

  • Treating post-haemorrhagic ventricular dilatation (PHVD)
  • Diagnosing and managing viral and central nervous system infections
  • Understanding neonatal stroke and venous thrombosis
  • Using neuroimaging to predict outcomes in preterm babies
  • Identifying conditions that mimic hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE)

Her talks were filled with new insights and real-life imaging examples that help improve early diagnosis and decision-making in neonatal care.

Professor de Vries’ research supports better early identification of risks and outcomes for babies with brain injuries — which can be a cause of cerebral palsy. By improving how we diagnose and respond to these conditions, we can help deliver earlier, more targeted care for infants at risk of cerebral palsy and ultimately support better long-term outcomes for children and their families.
