New treadmill at Allambie gym thank to our supporter

Having already participated in CPA fundraising events such as Steptember and the Krazy Kosci Klimb, Nicholas was inspired to create something uniquely his own, combining his passion for swimming with his desire to raise awareness and support for individuals with cerebral palsy.

From this idea, 20km with 20 Mates was born: a now an annual event, where Nicholas brings together 20 individuals connected to CPA, each swimming 1km to collectively complete a 20km challenge. The distance also symbolises a powerful statistic – every 20 hours, a baby is born with cerebral palsy, reinforcing the importance of ongoing support and research. In its most recent year, the event raised nearly $8,000 for CPA’s Health and Wellbeing Program, all within a supportive and celebratory community atmosphere.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Cerebral Palsy Alliance has welcomed a new SportsArt Treadmill with medical handrails into our therapy space. This specialised equipment is already improving access for people with cerebral palsy and similar disabilities. For many clients, it’s more than a gym upgrade — it’s a pathway to greater mobility, confidence and long-term health.

Unlike a standard treadmill, the SportsArt model is designed for safety and accessibility. Its full-length handrails, low step-up height and precise speed control create a supportive environment for all abilities. For some, it’s the first time they can walk consistently on a treadmill.

The treadmill offers several key benefits:

• Tailored therapy: Therapists guide repeated walking practice and monitor movement closely.
• Builds strength: Gradually increase speed, time or incline to improve mobility and reduce fatigue.
