For the last few years, Henry, a young CPA client from Canberra, has taken part in Cerebral Palsy Alliance fundraising events with the support of his day-care friends and staff at Pinocchio Early Learning Centre.
Henry is a regular at our Scullin therapy centre and is also involved in TechToys, our exciting research study which is adapting toys to make them more accessible for children with complex CP.
Last month, Henry’s day-care took their support of CPA to a new level with the ‘wheelsday’ initiative, turning the centre into an accessible track for all the kids to wheel, scoot and ride – with Henry proudly taking part on his walker.
Incredibly, more than $11,000 was raised for CP research, more than double their fundraising target!
“It was a wonderful day and an incredible fundraising effort by everyone. It was great to see all the kids so enthusiastic about riding, racing and fund raising. Henry really enjoyed walking around in his walker with all his friends. We are so thankful to have Henry involved with such a supportive community,” said Henry’s mum, Kate.
As well as vital fundraising, the day raised awareness of CP in an inclusive environment, with children proudly wearing green, the colour of CP visibility.
Thanks to Henry’s family and the Pinocchio Dickson team for raising vital funds for cerebral palsy research – and for bringing a smile to our faces. It’s never too early to have meaningful conversations about disability inclusion, and Henry’s friends are a brilliant example of this.
