IDPwD 2026: Celebrating inclusion, lived experience and community connection

International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is a United Nations (UN) observed day, recognised globally on 3 December.

At Cerebral Palsy Alliance (CPA), it’s an important moment to celebrate the voices, experiences and achievements of the 5.5 million Australian people with disability, and to amplify the message of inclusion, accessibility and equality in every part of society.

This year, CPA is proud to mark IDPwD through:

  • An upcoming feature in the “From Passion to Practice” series by Women in Global Health Australia, highlighting the journeys of Nadia Badawi and Georgie Henry as leaders advocating for disability rights, health equity and research impact. The profile will be posted on their website on 3 December 2025.
  • ConnectABILITY’s special all-staff webinar, exploring the UN theme “Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress” and unpacking the value of lived experience across CPA. Panellists from Research, Client Services and People & Culture will share personal reflections, challenges, and the evolving role of lived experience in creating a more inclusive organisation.

IDPwD is more than a date – it’s a reminder that accessibility, representation, and equity are shared responsibilities.

In Australia, IDPwD is a joint effort between government, schools, organisations, community groups, businesses and individuals. We all have a role to play in ensuring people with disability can participate in all aspects of community life. So, get yourself and your community involved!

Check out the below list of events across NSW – it’s not an exhaustive list so make sure you check your local community for more events in your local area, encourage your school, workplace or community group to organise an IDPwD event, or even host your own celebrations during the week of 3rd December!
