This year, we saw national media coverage to help share information on this under-recognised virus. We were thrilled to see stories featured on Mamamia and Kiindred, helping to reach parents, carers and the broader community with important information about how CMV is spread and how to reduce risk during pregnancy.
More than 400 babies are born in Australia each year with a life-long disability caused by CMV, yet recent research shows only 14% of women aged 20–40 have heard of it. That statistic drives our mission to ensure every family has access to the information they need to make informed choices about their health and pregnancy.
Throughout the month, we shared clear, accessible prevention strategies such as:
We also continued our focus on supporting healthcare professionals, particularly GPs, midwives and obstetricians, to recognise and respond to CMV. CPA offers a wide range of free CMV resources, including:
These resources are designed to educate, inform, and support both families and professionals at every step—from awareness to diagnosis, care and long-term planning.

As we move into July and beyond, we know CMV awareness doesn’t stop. We’re committed to continuing this important work, collaborating with researchers, families, and clinicians to drive better outcomes for every child.
