Learn the fundamentals of riding a bike 

A small group run by a Physiotherapist, and assistant will teach beginner cyclists the fundamentals of riding a bike in a safe, fun and engaging environment.

Individual goals will be established to ensure targeted opportunities for the development and attainment of personal goals.

Activity ideas will be shared with families to support the ongoing attainment of skills.


Who is this program for?

  • Children aged 6-12 years
  • Children:
    • Who have their own bike
    • With a goal to learn to basics of bike riding skills
    • Able to access a bike without a hoist
    • Able to follow simple 1-2 step directions

Beginner group is designed for beginner riders just starting to learn to ride a bike e.g. using training wheels.

Note: Advanced group available in Term 2, 2021 - Fornightly Saturday 24 April 21 to 19 June 21


What does this program involve?

  • Children will learn the fundamentals of riding a bike in a small group (max 3) by learning and practicing skills during structured games that include turn taking, cooperation.


Your child will learn to:

  • Put a helmet on independently
  • Mount and dismount bike successfully
  • Develop bike balance skills
  • Start and to stop
  • Hold the handlebars and to steer in a straight line and around corners
  • ‘Scoot’ on bike sitting on the saddle
  • Learn to propel using pedals
  • Use breaks effectively to stop on level ground
