Lifestyles Afternoon Club is a weekly program for young people aged 13-17 with cerebral palsy and similar physical disabilities.

The program offers a variety of activities that promote personal growth, social interaction and creativity. Each session is planned to build essential life skills such as teamwork, communication and independence in a fun, safe and inclusive environment.

Note: This program follows the NSW school terms.

Who is the program for?

Teenagers aged 13-17 years with cerebral palsy and similar physical disabilities.

What does it involve?

The program involves a mix of activities, tailored to meet the needs and interests of the participants.

Activities are designed to build relationships, promote decision-making and encourage independence.

Each session is led by highly trained youth-focused disability support workers.

  • Weekly themes: Each week focuses on a different theme, such as, cooking, creative arts, music, and team challenges.
     
  • Hands-on activities: Engage in practical tasks like cooking, scavenger hunts and creative projects. Work as part of a team and independently to develop skills.
     
  • Skill-building: Develop essential life skills, such as effective teamwork, clear communication, personal health and well-being and goal setting.
     
  • Flexible programming: Activities are adjusted based on the needs and preferences of the group, ensuring everyone has equal say and can participate and benefit.

Fun and interactive hunts that help develop problem-solving and teamwork skills.

Cooking sessions

Learn to prepare and cook meals, promoting independence and practical life skills.

Creative activities

Engage in painting, crafting and other artistic endeavours like tie-dying, clay modelling, and keyring making to express creativity.

Team building games

Strengthen friendships and teamwork through interactive games. Participate in obstacle courses and team-building games to strengthen cooperation and social skills.

Video making

Create and edit videos, fostering creativity and technical skills.

Outdoor activities

Experience the benefits of physical activity and the great outdoors by participating in engaging activities, games, and various outdoor sports, which offer a unique way to enjoy nature while staying active with your friends.

Parents and carers afternoon tea

Afternoon tea will be available at the centre where you meet others from your local community while your child participates in Lifestyles Afternoon Club.
