CPA’s Joan Bratel receives OAM for services to people with cerebral palsy

Congratulations to much-loved member of the Cerebral Palsy Alliance family, Joan Bratel, who has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in the 2022 Queen's Birthday Honours List!

Joan's incredibly-well deserved OAM for services to people with cerebral palsy comes after a long and distinguished career at Cerebral Palsy Alliance.

Joining CPA as a clinical psychologist in 1986, Joan spearheaded many important projects over more than two decades at CPA. Among her roles, she spent time in the instrumental role of client wellbeing manager and founded trailblazing conductive education and individual and family support programs.

Joan has always gone above and beyond to support people with disabilities, their families and the wider community.

In her 25 years at CPA, there was barely a part of the organisation Joan wasn’t involved in, consulting on training, technology, education and much more.

Since retiring in 2021, Joan (far left in the above photo) hasn’t slowed down, becoming an active part of our volunteering team with her husband and supporting several key projects alongside researchers from our CPA Research Institute.

Rob White, Cerebral Palsy Alliance CEO, paid tribute to Joan’s service to people with cerebral palsy:

“Joan has always gone above and beyond to support people with disabilities, their families and the wider community. This recognition is richly-deserved after more than 25 years of positive impact as both a CPA employee and volunteer – congratulations Joan!”
