Aaryan’s wild journey to becoming a board member at 20

There’s a new and exciting voice on the board of Hornsby’s 2HHH radio station – Aaryan Shah is a 20-year-old Media and Communications student and long-term part of the Cerebral Palsy Alliance community who hopes to one day host his own weekly sports show.

Starting at 2HHH just over a year ago to get some broadcasting experience, Aaryan quickly became a fixture on their Monday night sports team. When he was elected as one of the board members of the radio station last month, he was initially apprehensive.

“I was totally shocked by this opportunity as I thought surely there were others with more experience [but] I now see it as a fresh start for the station, embracing the new generation, looking for fresh ideas and diversity in their team,” he says.

It’s not the first time he’s stepped behind a microphone – Aaryan has previously been a guest in the Channel 9 commentary box as part of a Cricket NSW ambassador program and has spoken at CPActive events, podcasts, TedxTelstra, community radio station 2SER and more.

Aaryan’s love for sport was cultivated by the staff at Cerebral Palsy Alliance, developing the skills and discipline that empowered him to lead the busy and fulfilling lifestyle he does today.

His talent for reporting may is supplemented by his success in the sporting arena – Aaryan has achieved impressive feats including travelling overseas with CPA in 2018 to compete in an international Boccia tournament, where he won a silver medal in the team event.

“I have already learnt a lot and will be far richer in my business knowledge and leadership for the opportunity and I am truly privileged to be offered this role,” he says.

Aaryan’s appointment to the board of 2HHH represents an exciting step not only for his career but for all of us in the CPA family, increasing visibility of people with disability and bringing a fresh young voice to homes across northern Sydney.

If you’re in the Ku-ring-gai area, be sure to tune in 100.1 FM to hear Aaryan and his colleagues on Monday nights as they talk all things sport!
