The AAC Day Out Program is back this July School Holidays!
We are excited to bring back the AAC Day Out, offering kids and teenagers the opportunity to enhance their communications skills through the functional use of their alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) system.
The AAC Day Out provides a motivating, enjoyable and social group environment for participants to model and observe the use of AAC devices in different scenarios and environments. Kids and teens develop specific skills training for the AAC user and their communication partners in a group setting.
Who is this program for?
- Children and teenagers ages 6-17 years
When and where?
- When: Monday 17 - Friday 20 July, 9am-12pm.
- Where: CPA Port Macquarie Centre.
What does this program involve?
- A range of fun activities suited to individuals' interests, ages and skill level.
- Activities include baking, gardening and games.
- The last day of the program will be held out in the community where participants will have the opportunity to apply their AAC skills outside of the therapy environment.
What are the expected outcomes?
Improve AAC competencies including:
- Linguistic – learning and using language skills.
- Operational – operating and using the AAC system.
- Social – using communication for social purpose.
- Strategic – repairing communication breakdowns.
