Young Adult Getaway is an independent living skills inspired program designed for young adults that want to have fun and experience the great outdoors.
Young adults are challenged to participate in meaningful and purposeful activities, increasing their confidence and becoming active participants and choice makers in their own life.
What does this program involve?
- Three nights, four days away from home in a shared living environment
- Young people are supported in an adventurous outdoor setting to build their capacity and develop independent living skills including:
- Team building games
- Sports activities
- Using the natural environment and being resourceful
- Meal planning and preparation
- Taking safe risks and building a fire (site permitting)
- Water safety (site dependent)
- Socialising with their fellow campers
- Sleeping in tents (site dependent)
Who is this program for?
- Young adults aged 18 -30 years seeking living independence, new skills and social awareness
- All disabilities are welcome, based on accommodation availability
- Participants must be able to understand and follow instructions and communicate their needs
- CPA welcomes both new and existing customers to attend any of our programs
What are the expected outcomes?
The program teaches participants how to:
- Understand self and recognise different perspectives
- Build social skills and increase confidence making new friends
- Respond to challenges and participate in new activities
- Become responsible for making choices and solving problems
- Plan and implement tasks and make decisions
- Emotional Independence and increased resilience from time away from home
