Grahame’s story

A personal passion

Grahame has mild CP in his left hand and leg and feels very lucky that it is so mild. He was brought up in Tamworth where his “Nana’s bush doctor” saw him with callipers on and told his parents to ditch them – instead he was told to run on the sand and squeeze a ball.

For the last 14 years, Grahame has worked for the Downer Group where he manages IT Service delivery for engineering, mining, renewable energy, transport, and light rail projects across Australia. Prior to that he spent 20 years working for the ANZ bank.

He has a 23-year old son and a 20-year-old daughter who live with him in the Hunter region.

One of Grahame’s passions is the “Byron Bay Bluesfest” and inspired by the blues music that he loves, he had an epiphany. He found a way to play steel slide guitar using Velcro cable ties and a rubber band to attach the steel slide to his left hand and with determination, lots of practise, he realised his dream.

Grahame is a member of CPA’s Circle of Hands, a special group of people who have made the extraordinary decision to leave a gift in their Will to CPA. In recognition of his commitment Grahame received an exclusive artwork commissioned from Sophie Wen, an artist who attends our art program in St Ives.
